A Senior Tax Partner at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) George Kwatia has described Ghana's tax laws as not so friendly to small businesses.
Mr Kwatia was responding to concerns by some small firms of serious challenges when it comes to meeting their tax obligations.
He was speaking at the JoyBusiness Knowledge Series: Powered by PwC – Intellitax: Paying Taxes Intelligently at the Mövenpick Ambassador Hotel in Accra on Tuesday.
"We are in an economy where the informal sector is very significant. It's unfortunate you have a significance informal sector which is driven by these SMEs but incidentally our laws do not necessarily reflect the industry performance," he said.
Mr Kwatia said most of these laws are crafted in a way that does not support the operations of local firms.
He also warned that if these concerns are not handled well it could affect the country's revenue.
