Man stabbed on Gold Coast footpath dies - NEWS.com.au

Police have been interviewing residents and searching for CCTV footage after a man collapsed and later died from a stab wound on a Gold Coast footpath.

The 35-year-old died after being stabbed outside the Beachcomber apartments in Surfers Paradise about 7.15pm on Tuesday.

Detective Inspector Chris Ahearn said police were keeping an open mind as to how many people were involved.

The deceased, who was a Surfer's Paradise resident, had not been staying at the Beachcomber apartments and there was a group of people on the footpath when the man was stabbed.

The public and paramedics attempted to reveive the man at the scene but he later died in hospital.

"It's certainly not a spousal partner or some sort of situation like that; our early indications are they are loosely known to each other - the group," Mr Ahearn told reporters.

"We believe some of the people on the street were from within that building. We have been speaking to them during the night...and further interviews today with all the residents in that apartment building."

The weapon has not been located although it appeared to be from an "edged weapon, like a knife or something similar", he said.

When asked if it was a drug-related crime, he said it was too early to determine the motive.

Investigators conducted searches in nearby streets following the stabbing and spoke to people within the vicinity of the incident.

Nobody has been charged.
