NSW's social-distancing shutdown will remain unchanged for the foreseeable future, despite just two new coronavirus infections being recorded yesterday and some other states relaxing their laws.
Yesterday, authorities in Queensland and WA announced COVID-19 restrictions in their states would be eased.
However, Ms Berejiklian today said some aspects of NSW's social-distancing shutdown were already more relaxed than other states.
"Yes we want to ease restrictions, yes we want people to have a greater sense of normality in their lives, but that comes with obvious consequences," she said.
"Once people ease back into normal active life, and I'm not going to suggest we are going to go back to what we were until the vaccine is found, the number of cases will go up.
"That's a fact."
There were just two new COVID-19 infections in NSW in the 24 hours to 8:00pm yesterday, taking the state's total to 3,004.
It is the lowest number of new cases recorded in the state since March 8.
About 4,400 people were tested for the virus in NSW yesterday.
Ms Berejiklian said the fact schools were going to partially reopen for face-to-face teaching in NSW from May 11 meant the restrictions were easing.
Schools in Queensland remain closed for all children except those with parents who are essential workers.
Some state governments announced plans to slowly start lifting coronavirus restrictions this week.
From Saturday in Queensland people will be able to go for a drive within 50 kilometres of their home or go out for a picnic with members of their household.
People in WA will be allowed to gather in groups of 10 from today.
Both states said social-distancing measures would still be in place and the Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said she would not hesitate to "clamp back down" if she saw mass gatherings.
When asked the prospect of something similar happening in NSW, chief health officer Kerry Chant said the social-distancing restrictions were "under regular review".
"As we consider changes to restrictions, it’s important we have a high level of testing," Dr Chant said.
