A woman who was allegedly murdered and stuffed in a wheelie bin has been identified as beloved English teacher Annette Brennan.
The body of the 67-year-old teacher was discovered at a waste management facility in Melbourne’s north last week, with staff at the facility discovering it while moving green waste.
Police believe the body was transported to the facility by a rubbish truck after being stuffed in a wheelie bin and left for collection outside a property in Coolaroo, about 20 kilometres north of Melbourne.
Homicide squad detectives arrested a 45-year-old man in Glenroy shortly after 11am on Tuesday.
Ms Brennan is understood to have known the man, who is now being questioned by police.
The nature of their relationship has not been revealed.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ms Brennan’s murder is currently underway, with police scouring the area for CCTV footage that may help with their inquiries.
A former student of Ms Brennan told Nine News the English teacher was a “beautiful, loving, and a kind woman”.
“She was amazing, I’m really shocked,” Simona Croce said, adding that “no one deserves to be treated this way”.
Neighbours of Ms Brennan spoke of her as being quiet but friendly, with one telling Daily Mail Australia that they were shocked by the incident and had “never seen anything like this out here”.
Police area appealing for anyone with CCTV or dash-cam footage, particularly between Sunday, June 23 and Tuesday, July 2, to come forward.
Detectives are also keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area around that time.
