Arson squad detectives are investigating a house fire in Melbourne's south-west where four people are unaccounted-for, all believed to be children.

Police said investigators were told the fire started at the house on Mantello Drive in Werribee shortly after 1:00am.
Thick black smoke was seen pouring from the brick home.
Four people who police said were all believed to be children were unaccounted for as investigations continued on Sunday morning.
"A man, a woman, and an eight-year-old boy were able to escape the fire," a spokesperson said.
The man, believed to be a firefighter, was taken to hospital with serious smoke-related injuries.
The woman is being treated for smoke inhalation in hospital, and the eight-year-old was hospitalised with minor injuries.
The Victoria Police arson squad is now trying to piece together what caused the blaze.
