Two teenagers are being questioned by Queensland police after a man was stabbed and left to die on the side of a busy road in Brisbane.

The 43-year-old man was found by a member of the public at about 1.30am today on Newmarket Road in Wilston.

Paramedics rushed to the scene but the man was declared dead 10 minutes later.

"This is indeed a tragic incident," Detective Superintendent Andrew Massingham said.

"This man was killed less than a kilometre from his home."

It's believed the man, who lived alone, may have been involved in an altercation before his death.

He appeared to be walking home when he was set upon.

Two teenagers - a 17-year-old man and 17-year-old woman - are currently being held in custody and questioned by police as part of the murder investigation.

Police on patrol allegedly saw the 17-year-old man running down Newmarket Road about an hour before the victim was found on the footpath.

A search of the teen allegedly revealed he was carrying a large knife, Massingham said.

A short time later a 17-year-old woman approached police and identified herself as the teenager's partner,  Massingham said.

The woman allegedly became aggressive and assaulted officers.

Both of the teens were issued notices to appear in court, the man for possession of a weapon in a public place and the woman for assault police.

No charges have been made in relation to the murder.

Police are calling on members of the people with any information, dash cam or CCTV footage to contact police.

Massingham said dashcam footage could be key to solving the murder.

"Despite the fact that it was after midnight there was still a lot of traffic," Massingham said.

"There were a lot of events on in Brisbane last night and hence there were a lot more people around than normal.

"We call upon those people. Anyone driving along Newmarket road between 11pm and 2am that might have dashcam vision or any vision that they can provide to the police would greatly assist us.

"Our preliminary investigations indicate that the deceased was in some altercation with persons prior to his death.

"It is important that we identify those persons and we believe that passing traffic will hold the key to that mystery."

A man and woman were found nearby and police said in a statement they are assisting with their inquiries.

A crime scene has been established.

Investigators are calling on anyone from the Wilston area with information, dash cam or CCTV footage to contact police.
