WorkSafe has confirmed it is testing one of its staff connected to the coronavirus cluster at Cedar Meats Australia in Melbourne.
A WorkSafe spokesperson told the ABC an employee who visited the meatworks last month in the suburb of Brooklyn was being tested for COVID-19 and five other staff who had contact with the person were in isolation.
Cedar Meats Australia has confirmed to ABC the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) first informed labour hire company Labour Solutions Australia (which supplies workers to the meatworks) on April 24 that a worker had tested positive to COVID-19.
It was then up to Labour Solutions to tell Cedar Meats about the case.
"The manager who took that call was left with the impression that there was a potential positive case, not a definite," a Cedar Meats spokesperson said.
The DHHS has confirmed one of the 13 cases linked to Cedar Meats on Thursday, was a student from private school Marcellin College in Bulleen.
The student is a household contact of a confirmed case from the Cedar Meats cluster.
"As the student did not attend school while infectious the department has advised no further action is necessary by Marcellin College," a spokesperson said.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews defended the state's coronavirus contact-tracing team on Thursday, after 13 more cases linked to a cluster at a Melbourne meatworks were confirmed, bringing the total to 62.
The cases linked to Cedar Meats Australia also includes a hospital worker and an aged care centre employee.
Mr Andrews said yesterday seven of the new cases were workers at Cedar Meats Australia and six were close contacts of workers at the facility.
The cases were generally considered to be "mild" and none of those infected were in hospital, he said.
A total of 14 new cases were announced in Victoria on Thursday, bringing the state's total to 1,454.
The one non-meatworks-related case is still under investigation.
