Melbourne has its coldest morning of the year, and since October last year - The Age

"The south west coast, across Warrnambool and Portland, was around 7 to 9 degrees and that was the warmest part of the state this morning."

At 7.30am it was 5 degrees in Melbourne. There is no chance of rain on Friday, according to the BoM.

The previous coldest morning in Melbourne for the year was on Thursday morning (6.6 degrees) with another few chilly starts to the day on the way (Saturday 6 degrees and Sunday and Monday forecast for 7 degrees).

Melbourne Airport was as low as 2.7 degrees overnight and a high of 3.6 degrees. In the city the warmest it got overnight was 4.9 degrees.

There were clear skies and light winds overnight meaning it's likely to be a sunny day in Melbourne, with a forecast top of 15 degrees.

There is no snow forecast at the moment.

"The next risk of snow is mid-to-late next week when he have got another cold front coming through, although there is some uncertainty about how that front plays out at this stage," Ms Bradbury said.
