The Melbourne pilot accused of murdering two campers in Victoria’s high country last year has been remanded in custody until May next year.
Key points:
- Jetstar pilot Greg Lynn appeared in the Sale Magistrates' Court this morning charged with the murder of two campers in 2020
- Mr Lynn was arrested on Monday night by special operations officers and spent several days in custody before being charged
- Police also seized his car, but are still looking for a trailer they believe was sold online last year
Caroline Springs man Greg Lynn, 55, was arrested on Monday afternoon by special operations officers at a campsite at Arbuckle Junction, 55 kilometres from where campers Russell Hill and Carol Clay, both in their 70s, were last seen in the remote Wonnangatta Valley.
Officers also seized Mr Lynn's Nissan Patrol for forensic testing.
Mr Lynn has been charged with two counts of murder and appeared in the Sale Magistrates' Court this morning.
Mr Lynn appeared via video link, wearing a grey windcheater and a face mask.
He sat quietly throughout the hearing and was remanded until May 31, 2022 for committal.
The Magistrates' Court does not have jurisdiction to hear bail applications for murder charges.
Victoria Police Crime Command Assistant Commissioner Bob Hill last night said the investigation was ongoing and police were still searching for Mr Hill and Ms Clay's remains.
"My heartfelt thoughts are with both the Hill and Clay families," he said.
Police are also still appealing for information about the whereabouts of a blue trailer that was seen last year in the valley attached to the Nissan Patrol.
The assistant commissioner said it was believed the trailer was sold on online marketplace Gumtree.
Mr Hill and Ms Clay were last heard from on March 20 last year.
Their campsite was found burnt out, but Mr Hill's four-wheel drive was still there.
Mr Lynn was a pilot for Jetstar Airways. The airline confirmed he had been suspended after his arrest.
