Snow, rain and blustery winds are set to hit multiple states as a wintry cold front sweeps across much of southern Australia.
Gusts exceeding 90 km/h were forecast to blow through south-east South Australia, Tasmania, Victoria, the Australian Capital Territory and parts of east and southeast New South Wales from as early as last night.
The winds will then travel north, with Melbourne and parts of Victoria told to brace for a blustery day today before they reach coastal Sydney on Wednesday.
The wind is expected to bring lots of rain, with Tasmania again expected to see the worst of it.
Between 40 and 80 millimetres is forecast to fall in the west and north, and 15-30 millimetres in other areas of the state by Wednesday morning.
Eastern Victoria and south-east NSW could see 40-60 millimetres, mostly in the alpine areas.
The Alps could finally see snow this week, with 15-25 centimetres expected above 1500 metres. Lighter falls of up to about 10 centimetres could be seen at altitudes as low as 1200-1300 metres.
