Man dies after suspected hit and run in Melbourne - 9News

A 44-year-old man has died in hospital after a suspected hit-run in Melbourne early this morning.

Police have been told the man was found injured on the side of the Princes Highway, between Neill and Peel streets in Berwick about 12.15am.

"It is understood a passenger in a ride-share vehicle noticed the man injured in the gutter, as he was being driven past the area, and raised the alarm," police said.

The passenger called for police to help the man who was between Neill and Peel streets. (9News)

"The injured man is believed to have suffered life-threatening injuries after being struck by a car."

The man was taken to hospital where he later died.

Police said it appears the man may have been hit by a black BMW sedan.

Investigators believe the car would have extensive damage to the passenger front wheel arch and well as passenger front lights.
