After years of waiting and deliberation — and a failed start by the river in Melville — State planners have finally given the green light to Perth’s first surf park.
The Metro Outer Joint Development Assessment Panel unanimously approved Aventuur’s $100 million proposal on Monday which they said would create a “world-class facility” in the heart of Cockburn City.
City of Cockburn councillor and panel member Chontelle Stone said the surf park would not only boost the economy for surrounding areas but would also “generate tourism for the greater Perth area”.
Despite raising concerns over a potential lack of parking, fellow panel member and councillor Phoebe Corke also threw her support behind the surf lagoon and beach club plans.
The development will also feature a beach club, quality bars and restaurants, a high-performance surfing academy, wellness and recovery centre, fitness studio, a skate park and nature-scaped gardens.
The multi-million dollar facility will become the biggest surf park in the southern hemisphere.
