Fourth unrelated body discovered in Mexico missing Australian brothers search - 9News

A fourth body has been found in a search for two Australian brothers and their US friend in Mexico.

9News understands that three bodies were found on a cliff by the ocean, about 2km away from what is believed to be the men's campsite.

The fourth body was later found during the same search but 9News understands it is not related to the three other bodies found.

9News' Alison Piotrowski travelled to the site today, and described the road nearby the campsite as "very treacherous".

Three abandoned tents were also discovered along with the remains of a campfire.

"There was a very heavy police presence and an army presence. There were at least 100 soldiers and officers there," Piotrowski said.

"None of them were authorised to confirm whether or not it is the bodies of the three men."

Mexican authorities told 9News that once they have retrieved the bodies and transported them back into town, they will provide media with an update.

Mexican police response

All three men were due to check into Airbnb accommodation in Rosarito, but failed to arrive.

A local police commander previously told 9News he feared the three men had ventured too far out of Ensanada to a remote area.

The brothers were driving a white Chevrolet Colorado ute.

A car matching the description of the Chevrolet Colorado ute has also been found burnt out on a nearby farm, in the Santo Tomas area.

Baja California Attorney General, María Elena Andrade Ramírez confirmed yesterday that three Mexican nationals had been arrested in connection to the case.

9News understands a woman was found to be in possession of one of the brothers' mobile phones, but it has not been confirmed which man.

It's understood she turned the phone on, which caused it to ping a local cell tower and allowed authorities to track her down.

Family and friends have been appealing for assistance using social media, which sparked the initial investigation by Mexican authorities.

Callum had been living in the US after following his dream to become a professional Lacrosse player and to represent Australia.

Jake left Australia just two weeks ago to visit his brother. He had been working as a doctor and was due to start a new job in Victoria.

Their parents Martin and Debra Robinson said yesterday they were "heading to the US/Mexico to be as close as possible to the area where they were last seen".
