"Barbaro will front a Sydney court in coming days in relation to an extradition to Victoria.
"I want to say thank you to the Victorian and national public for all the assistance they've provided."
Mr Barbaro was arrested at Wentworth Point and taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries before being discharged later on Thursday morning.
NSW police said officers from their robbery and serious crime squad, with the help of the tactical operations unit, arrived at Amalfi Drive in Wentworth Point shortly before 11pm on Wednesday.
Following negotiations and a brief physical altercation, a 33-year-old man was arrested.
"The Victorian man was taken to Concord Hospital for treatment to minor injuries before being taken to Burwood Police Station where charges are expected to be laid," NSW police said.
The nationwide hunt for Barbaro included Victoria's homicide squad, fugitive taskforce detectives and a number of other law enforcement agencies.
Police said detectives were not searching for anyone else.
Victorian detectives are now travelling to NSW to apply for the man’s extradition to Melbourne.
Police believe Ms Price, an aspiring dancer and mother of one, had been in an "on again, off again" relationship with Mr Barbaro since about October 2019.
A public appeal to help locate Mr Barbaro and Ms Price's missing white 2017 E350 Mercedes Benz, with distinctive pink number plates, was launched on Thursday last week. The luxury vehicle was discovered at an acreage in Diggers Rest within hours.
It also prompted an appeal from his stepmother, Anita Barbaro, who pleaded with the 33-year-old to "make contact with somebody".
"Ricky, son, if you've done anything wrong please come forward and do the right thing for the sake of this poor young woman and family and the incomprehensible pain they must be suffering, you need to make contact with somebody," Ms Barbaro wrote.
Anyone who might have seen or heard suspicious activity in South Melbourne's Park or Ferrars streets in the fortnight leading up to April 29, particularly on the afternoon of the 28th and into the early hours of the 29th, are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at crimestoppers.com.au.
