The Liberal National Party (LNP) Member for Broadwater, David Crisafulli, has confirmed he is running for the LNP leadership in Queensland, following the party's election loss at the weekend.
Key points:
- The party's current deputy leader Tim Mander will not contest either the leadership or deputy leadership
- Outgoing Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington announced she would step aside on Monday
- A new leader will be appointed once a party room meeting is convened
Queensland's previous deputy leader Tim Mander today announced he would not contest the leadership or deputy leadership.
On Monday, outgoing Opposition Leader Deb Frecklington announced she would step aside yesterday after the LNP lost up to four seats.
A party room meeting will be convened after the final vote is tallied and a new leader will be appointed.
In a statement, Mr Crisafulli said he would be asking for support from his colleagues in the coming days.
"I nominate as someone who can offer the discipline to hold the Government to account and the energy to start the four-year task of preparing the LNP for government in 2024," the Gold Coast-based MP said.
"Our party, our supporters and those who chose not to support us this time around deserve nothing less.
"In coming days, I will be asking my colleagues for their support and sharing with them my plan for rebuilding.
"Because this is a decision for the party room, I want to speak with my colleagues further before making any comment."
Mr Crisafulli thanked Ms Frecklington and Mr Mander for the "tireless effort" they put into the party's leadership over the past three years.

"Deb and Tim can be proud of their work ethic and long days trying to secure victory for the LNP."
It is understood Burdekin MP Dale Last had indicated he would be open to a leadership position.
Toowoomba South MP David Janetzki today also confirmed he will make a tilt for the deputy leadership.
"These are matters to be determined by my parliamentary colleagues in the days ahead," Mr Janetzki said in a statement.
"As such, I will not be making any further public statements."
'Now is the time for stability': Mander
In a statement, Mr Mander said he wished the new leadership team all the very best.
"It has been a tremendous honour to serve as Deb Frecklington's Deputy Leader over the last three years," he said.
"I won't be putting my hand up as a contender in the leadership contest when the LNP party room meeting is convened.
"I will not contest the deputy leadership either."
Mr Mander said he thanked people for reaching out to him over the last few days with support and encouragement.
"I want to thank my family for their unwavering support and the people of Everton for putting their faith in me for another four years."
