'The time is fast approaching, if it hasn't already arrived, to get the borders open'
That's what Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said this morning.
He was referring to state borders.
On Monday, the last active case was cleared and discharged from hospital, bringing Victoria closer to officially eradicating the virus.
That milestone is set to be reached on Friday, when Victoria is due to reach 28 days without any new COVID cases.
"This is a triumph for the people of Victoria, we had a clear strategy, everyone made sacrifices, we stayed the course and now we've got no active cases and no new cases," Mr Andrews told ABC News Breakfast.
The Premier again encouraged his Queensland counterpart to push ahead with reopening that state's border to Victorians.
"I'm not critical of the Queensland government, they've done what they had to do to protect their citizens and we closed the South Australian border ourselves last week," he said.
"But the time is fast approaching if it hasn't already arrived to get those borders open."
He also confirmed international passengers would be returning to Melbourne at a rate of 160 a day, or about 1,100 a week.
That starts from December 7.
"Before then, we'll have more to say about the detailed [hotel quarantine] arrangements we've put in place, and we're very confident that they will be the appropriate arrangements to have the Aussies returning home. To have our city open again. But today is not the day for that. But we'll have more to say about that soon," Mr Andrews said.
