How did the teenager get the virus?

           

               

We have been told that the teenager picked up the pizza on November 14 and fell ill and got tested after that.

              

A journalist asked whether the girl should have gone to school if she was infectious.

             

"The fact that she got herself tested, I am so pleased about. This young person has done absolutely nothing wrong. She's followed the directions and within her understanding of what she needed to do," Professor Spurrier said.

              

Professor Spurrier said she is looking "to see what degree this young girl was infectious" and that there are risk assessments taking place at the moment.

            

Another journalist asked why the whole state wasn't sent back into lockdown considering the circumstances around this case appear similar to what was initially known when the first case was discovered at the pizza venue.

           

"It is quite complex. The reason for the lock down but one of the reasons for doing it was to get our contact tracing team ramped up and we made every - took that opportunity to do absolutely everything we could.

             

"We are in a good place, in terms of the contact tracing team. We have brought contact tracers phoning in from interstate to help us out as well and we have got a very good system in place. We are pretty - we have a lot of idea of where we are in terms of getting ahead of this. 

        

"It is early days trying to work out exactly the information around this case but it appears that there has been that link from an epidemiological point of view to the Woodville pizza bar."

             

Professor Spurrier did not want to give more details, citing privacy concerns.

         

"I am not going to give you all the details because I do have a duty of care to protect peoples' privacy but I am strongly of the belief that there was nothing that was done that was wrong."

       

She said everything that the public would need to be told will be published on the SA Health website.
