Coronavirus alerts issued for two SA shopping centres as Black Friday puts authorities on edge - ABC News

Health authorities have added major Adelaide shopping centres to their list of potential coronavirus spread sites, and have urged Black Friday shoppers to wear masks.

SA Health has issued public health alerts for Armada Arndale Shopping Centre and Port Adelaide Plaza, after a person with COVID-19 visited the sites while potentially infectious over the past fortnight.

Deputy Chief Public Health Officer Emily Kirkpatrick said the warnings were prompted by the expansion of the Parafield cluster, which yesterday grew to include a man in his 40s.

"This is linked to our new case, these two locations," Dr Kirkpatrick said.

Anyone who was at the Armada Arndale Shopping Centre last Sunday, November 22 between 11:00am and 11:30am or the previous Sunday, November 15 between 11:30am and 12:30pm has been asked to monitor their symptoms and get tested if any develop.

The same advice is current for anyone who was at Port Adelaide Plaza on Friday, November 13 between 6:40pm and 9:30pm or on Sunday, November 15 between 3:00pm and 3:30pm.

An influx of shoppers is today expected to descend on Rundle Mall and other retail precincts for Black Friday sales.

Dr Kirkpatrick said SA Health would be offering masks to shoppers at key locations, after a drop-off in recent days.

"Hopefully we'll see some change happen in the community, particularly with those Black Friday sales," she told ABC Radio Adelaide this morning.

She said shops had been worked to ensure social distancing by limiting customer numbers and establishing COVID marshals.

"But [it's] really important to think about the mask and, if you can, wear it at all times when you're in these sort of shopping environments," she said.

"Stay hydrated because of course this is very hot weather and keeping your 1.5-metre physical distancing."

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting a maximum of 40 degrees Celsius today.

School deep clean continuing

Meanwhile, deep cleaning continues at the Woodville High School, which a year 9 student attended on Monday before testing positive for COVID-19 the following day.

SA Health suspects the teenager contracted the infection when she picked up a pizza from the Woodville Pizza on Saturday, November 14.

Woodville High School Principal Meredith Edwards said she was contacting members of the school's community to re-enforce safety messaging.

"We are a wonderfully multicultural community and it's really important I work on ways on all [to communicate with members of] different communities, being really clear about [safety]," she said.

Ms Edwards added that the school would reopen next week.

"The deep cleaning went through the night and will conclude tonight," she said.

"It is safe for our school to reopen once the deep clean is complete."
