NSW records one new locally acquired case of COVID-19 - NEWS.com.au

NSW has reported three new cases of coronavirus, with only one of these locally acquired.

Both other cases were diagnosed in returned travellers in hotel quarantine.

The locally infected person is a staff member at a Lebanese restaurant Jasmin1 in Liverpool, Sydney’s south west.

Their diagnosis was first reported on Monday night but outside the reporting period, so it has been included in Tuesday’s virus numbers.

The eatery has previously been the subject of warnings from NSW Health after a positive case visited the establishment on October 25.

Health officials are strongly urging anyone who visited the restaurant for more than one hour last Monday between 4pm-9pm, last Saturday between 3pm-8pm, and last Sunday between 9am-1.45pm get tested immediately and self-isolate regardless of the result.

Anyone who visited the restaurant for less than an hour should monitor for symptoms and prepare to get tested if they develop.

Health officials also said there has been a “concerning” drop in testing numbers recently.

“NSW Health is appealing to members of the southwestern Sydney community in particular to come forward for testing right away if you have even the mildest of symptoms like a runny nose or scratchy throat, cough, fever or other symptoms that could be COVID-19,” the department wrote in an alert.

The new virus numbers come as the NSW Premier is pushing for more state borders to open.

Gladys Berejiklian said on Monday she is keen for Sydneysiders to be allowed to visit Queensland, a state where the tough border policies have proven immensely popular.

The state opened its borders to people from most NSW regions early Tuesday morning, although people from greater Sydney remain locked out.

Ms Berejiklian also hinted there might be a significant announcement coming related to the reopening of the Victoria-NSW border, perhaps as early as Wednesday.

COVID-19 statistics in NSW are tallied by 24-hour periods ending at 8pm the night prior to each announcement.
