Queensland restrictions on weddings, sporting events eased - NEWS.com.au

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk has eased a number of restrictions impacting crowd and guest limits at weddings, sporting events and funerals.

Weddings will now be able to host 200 people and the number of guests allowed to dance is unlimited from Tuesday November 17.

Those dancing are not expected to socially distance, Chief Health Officer Jeanette Young said.

Funerals will also be permitted to have 200 people, while restrictions are also eased on movie theatres and live music with the gap between performers and the crowd reduced from 4 metres to 2 metres.

Outdoor events will be able to host up to 1500 people, stadium capacity at sporting events will increase from 75 per cent filled to 100 per cent, and Queensland residents will be able to host gatherings of up to 50 people in their homes or in a public space.

Restrictions for indoor premises will ease, allowing one person per two square metres and outdoor dancing at events such as music festivals will be allowed.

The increased numbers will come into effect in time for Wednesday’s State of Origin rugby match between Queensland and New South Wales.

“So, if you don‘t have a ticket yet, hopefully some more tickets can be released and let’s fill that Cauldron, let’s fill Suncorp and cheer our mighty Maroons on,” Ms Palaszczuk told reporters on Friday.

“This is absolutely wonderful news. And this is because of the great work of Queenslanders.”

Chief Health Officer Jeannette Young urged Queenslanders to adopt wearing a mask to reduce the risks associated with easing restrictions.

She implored people visiting restaurants and other events to cover their face with a mask on entry and exit, where groups of people might come into close contact, but said they safely remove during the meal.

“Queensland’s COVID Safe plans have worked well to keep our community safe and help keep life as normal as possible,” Dr Young said.

“COVID Safe Plans will be reviewed and updated in line with the further easing of restrictions, and government departments will work with their stakeholders to do this.”
