COVID-19 in WA: 7822 new infections and one historical death reported - PerthNow

The number of daily positive COVID-19 cases in WA has again dropped, with the State recording 7822 new infections overnight.

The death of a woman in her 80s was included in the overnight figures, but she is understood to have died on Thursday.

There were 215 people with COVID-19 in hospital to 8pm on Friday, including six in ICU. WA now has a total of 54,064 active cases.

Of the 7822 cases, 3160 were confirmed with a PCR test, the remaining 4662 were self-reported after positive rapid antigen tests. A total 14,786 PCR tests were conducted at either State-run or private pathology clinics on Friday.

WA has recorded 190,502 cases since the COVID-19 pandemic began.

The drop in infections comes two days after Level 2 restrictions were eased, thanks to lower than predicted COVID infections in intensive care.

High-risk venues such as nightclubs are now able to have 500 people under the new rules and the capacity limit at Optus Stadium has increase from 50 to 75 per cent.

Indoor home gatherings can entertain up to 30 people, which can increase to 200 outdoors.

And QR check-in codes have been scrapped for venues that don’t require proof of vaccination upon entry such as shops.
