Rare and vintage handbags worth $250,000 stolen from Melbourne home - 9News

Police believe more than one offender was involved in the alleged theft of luxury handbags worth more than $250,000 from a home in Melbourne's east.

Some jewellery and 50 designer handbags were stolen including some rare and vintage Chanel bags.

The owner of a property on Canterbury Road in Blackburn allegedly came home about 10pm on August 3 to find every room had been ransacked.

Detective Senior Constable Chris Maloney said it was believed the valuables were stolen some time between noon and 10pm on August 3.

"Due to the quantity of the handbags, it's possible that more than one offender was involved," he said.

"It's possible they needed a motor vehicle to remove the items."

Maloney said the owner was left "devastated".

Police have released photos and a video of the handbags in the hope someone recognises them.

Anyone with information about the burglary is urged to contact police.

Maloney said there was no indication that the two crimes were related.

Police found those handbags at a woman's home the following month and were able to return them to the owner.
