A 30-year-old single mother on the NSW Central Coast has been left shaken after a shocking break-in at her home on Thursday night.

Candice Bowen was with her children when three men broke in around 9pm, assaulted her and leaving the home to burn.

Battered and bruised she's now reliving the terrifying ordeal in the hopes of catching those involved.

"I woke up, I actually thought I was in a dream and I woke up to having someone hit me with a pole. I don't know what it was," Bowen told NBN News.

Police say the 30-year-old was assaulted but managed to scare off the intruders.

They fled the scene leaving the Wyong home burning with three children aged under five inside.

"It was really scary, I had to run out the back and like I said, the kids, I am still in shock, I don't think it has hit me yet," she said.

The mum rushed her children out the back of the burning house where emergency services arrived moments later at 9.15pm to put out the blaze.

"At this stage the matter is under investigation so we're not sure why it occurred. It does appear to be targeted," Chief Insp. Colin Lott told NBN News.

Bowen and her five-year-old boy were taken to Wyong hospital as a precaution and were later discharged.

Returning to a home that's now a charred mess, deemed uninhabitable.

The Howarth Street home sustained major damage, while clothes and toys are burned, the family left to sift through items covered in ash and see what's salvageable.

"Now I have got nowhere to go, I've had to go up to housing and get emergency accommodation, never had to do that in my life," Bowen said.

Meanwhile, police are calling on the community to come forward if they have any details that could help in the investigation.
