A child has died in a three-vehicle collision at Shepparton East in Victoria's north on Friday afternoon.
Victoria Police said the vehicles collided at the intersection of Old Dookie Road and Boundary Road about 2pm.
A child, yet to be identified, died at the scene. Emergency services initially said a second child was flown to hospital but have corrected that information.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said five people were assessed at the scene.
A woman believed to be in her 30s was flown to Royal Melbourne Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
A woman believed to be in her 20s was flown to The Alfred hospital in a stable condition with lower body injuries.
Two other adults with non-life-threatening injuries were taken to Goulburn Valley Health in Shepparton for observation.
The crash adds to a terrible toll on the roads in the Goulburn Valley this year, with the region recording the most road deaths outside metropolitan Melbourne.
At least 37 people have died in the Goulburn Valley area in 2023, including 13 in greater Shepparton.
The state road toll stands at 229, up about 16 per cent on the same time last year.
