A senior member of the NSW Police executive has been charged with high-range drink-driving, six months after allegedly crashing his work car on the NorthConnex and abandoning it in a suburban street in Sydney’s north.
But the Crown Solicitor’s Office has prohibited the release of the officer’s name.
The high-ranking detective had allegedly been drinking at a function at The Rocks, on May 12, before allegedly getting behind the wheel of a car issued to him by NSW Police.
The 46-year-old allegedly collided with a barrier on the NorthConnex at 1:54am after leaving the function, and is accused of driving the vehicle to nearby Russell Avenue in Wahroonga before abandoning it.
Last week the detective was charged with high-range drink-driving and a back-up offence of driving under the influence, six months after the crash.
NSW Police issue media releases each time an officer is charged with an offence, no matter how large or small – but that did not happen after this officer was charged last week.
Instead, the Crown Solicitor’s Office, which provides legal advice and services to the state government, including police, ordered that the officer not be identified for operational reasons.
In a statement, police said Commissioner Karen Webb has forwarded the matter to the Professional Standards Command and the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC) for investigation.
The officer will face Hornsby Local Court on December 21.
