Elderly woman dies after alleged sexual assault inside NSW Central Coast aged care home - 9News

A 90-year-old woman has died in hospital, nearly two weeks after she was allegedly sexually assaulted inside a NSW Central Coast aged care facility.

Police allege a man broke into the Uniting Nareen Gardens facility in Bateau Bay about 12.40am on November 15 and assaulted and sexually assaulted the woman.

She received extensive injuries and was rushed to hospital.

9News understands injuries she sustained to her arms during the alleged attack became infected, leading to her death this morning.

"Our hearts go out to her family and loved ones and we have passed on condolences to them on behalf of all at our home at Bateau Bay and the whole of uniting," Uniting Nareen Gardens Residential Aged Care said in a statement.

Detectives executed a search warrant at an address in The Entrance on November 17 and arrested Brett Anthony Crawford.

The 34-year-old was charged with numerous offences including aggravated break and enter, inflicting actual bodily harm with intent to have sexual intercourse with the victim, and aggravated sexual assault.

Police will decide if his charges will be upgraded following her death based on the post-mortem exam. 

He remains behind bars until his next court appearance in eight weeks.
