Tributes are flowing for a teenager who died after being struck by a bus in Brisbane's CBD.

Tia Cameron, 18, had just walked out of beauty salon Milash at the corner of Edward and Ann streets when she was struck by the bus after it mounted the footpath and collided with a building during peak hour at 5pm yesterday.

Cameron was working at the prestigious Brisbane Club and had left the venue at 4pm.

Emergency services rushed to the scene with paramedics attempting to treat the young woman.

Milash owner Minh Phan said the teenager was in a "very happy" mood when she arrived at the salon.

"She was very happy yesterday," Phan said.

"So it just happened so suddenly that nobody would know this.

"I think it's very hard for everybody."

Queensland Police confirmed the Cameron was from the Brisbane suburb Hemmant.

Transport for Brisbane divisional manager Samantha Abeydeera said the bus had recently passed a routine test.

"There was a routine 10,000-kilometre testing of the bus last month", she said.

"Now the vehicle will actually go through an engineering investigation to ensure there were no mechanical failures."

The driver was described as "very experienced".

"We are convinced that we have a very safe fleet, very safe operators," Abeydeera said.

"We absolutely take the duty to the city very seriously."

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said: "I want the people of Brisbane to know, and I particularly want the family and friends of this young woman to know, that Brisbane is a city that is with you now.

"This is a time to remember that we are part of a community and to be kind to each other and support each other.

"But I want to assure the people of Brisbane that we will find the answers.

"Every one of those questions will be answered."

There were 10 people on board the bus at the time.

Four were taken to hospital, including the bus driver, who was treated for shock and minor injuries.
