"Barbaro will front a Sydney court in coming days in relation to an extradition to Victoria.

"I want to say thank you to the Victorian and national public for all the assistance they've provided."

Sources have told The Age that Mr Barbaro was arrested at Wentworth Point and taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries before being discharged later on Thursday morning.

The nationwide hunt for Barbaro included Victoria's homicide squad, fugitive taskforce detectives and a number of other law enforcement agencies.

Police said detectives were not searching for anyone else.

"Victorian detectives will now travel to NSW to apply for the man’s extradition to Melbourne," a police statement read.

Police believe Ms Price, an aspiring dancer and mother of one, had been in an "on again, off again" relationship with Mr Barbaro since about October 2019.

A public appeal to help locate Mr Barbaro and Ms Price's missing white 2017 E350 Mercedes Benz, with distinctive pink number plates, was launched on Thursday last week. The luxury vehicle was discovered at an acreage in Diggers Rest within hours.

It also prompted an appeal from his stepmother, Anita Barbaro, who pleaded with the 33-year-old to "make contact with somebody".

"Ricky, son, if you've done anything wrong please come forward and do the right thing for the sake of this poor young woman and family and the incomprehensible pain they must be suffering, you need to make contact with somebody," Ms Barbaro wrote.

Mr Barbaro is a scion of the Barbaro crime family, an Australian branch of the Italian mafia, and brother of slain Sydney underworld boss Pasquale Timothy Barbaro, 35, who was gunned down in a 2016 gangland hit.

Anyone who might have seen or heard suspicious activity in South Melbourne's Park or Ferrars streets in the fortnight leading up to April 29, particularly on the afternoon of the 28th and into the early hours of the 29th, are urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or at crimestoppers.com.au.
