Health experts await more than 35 Victorian priority COVID-19 tests - The Age

Victorian health authorities are awaiting more than 35 coronavirus tests from close contacts of a COVID-positive Wollert man after the state recorded no new local cases of coronavirus on Friday.

One new case of COVID-19 was discovered in hotel quarantine. There were more than 21,900 test results received across Thursday.

Six people - now in Victoria - who were staying on the same level of the South Australian hotel quarantine when the Wollert man was likely infected were tested for the virus on Thursday.

Those six people, who all stayed on level three of the Playford Hotel in Adelaide at the time of the potential transmission event, have been placed in mandatory 14 days quarantine.

There have been 118 primary close contacts of the Wollert man identified by contact tracers across four exposure sites: Curry Vault in the Melbourne CBD, Pact Altona North, Indiagate Epping and Woolworths Epping.

There have been 87 negative tests returned by close contacts so far. All close contacts are required to undertake 14 days of isolation.

All three of the Wollert man’s household close contacts have tested negative.

Victorian businesses were warned on Thursday they could be fined $1652 for not using a QR code check-in system, with authorised officers now tasked with cracking down on non-compliant businesses.

The government announced the expanded powers on Thursday after health authorities said several patrons who attended a CBD restaurant alongside the infectious Wollert man on Friday night did not use the QR check-in system.
