A Queensland woman thought she was going to die after she was allegedly stabbed while sunbaking at a beach if it weren’t for a hero tradie.
A tradie has revealed the horrifying moment a 23-year-old woman desperately called out for help after an alleged random stabbing attack on a popular beach in Queensland.
Kaitlin Jones was sunbathing on Blacks Beach, north of Mackay, when a teen, unknown to her, allegedly stabbed her multiple times, inflicting serious wounds to her head, neck, chest and arms.
The woman then stumbled away from the water on Monday morning where workers at a nearby construction site heard her screams for help.
A 58-year-old carpenter, Gavin Odgaard, said he was alerted to the cries and ran down to meet her.
“I got down closer to her and I could see the blood on her,” he told Channel 7.
“And she said ‘help me, help me, help me, I’ve been stabbed. I don’t want to die.”
On Monday, Queensland Police revealed a 16-year-old boy had been taken into custody over the alleged random attack and charged with acts intended to cause grievous bodily harm.
Police will allege the male launched the random attack while the woman sunbaked and stabbed her multiple times in the neck and body with a knife before fleeing the scene.
Ms Jones was rushed to hospital in a serious condition but the injuries were non-life-threatening.
The 16-year-old was refused bail and was due to appear before the Mackay Children’s Court on Tuesday.
