Construction shutdown to cost 'more than $450m in revenue every day'

The blog is yet to comment on the Vic construction shutdown. AND, there was no breaking news headline when the Premier put out his statement/press release. The ABC calls breaking news on much smaller items, I'm suspicious of the lack of coverage. what's going on?

Hey Suspicious, no need to be suspicious - the blog is yet to comment because we're only just getting started. 

But while we're on the topic, Master Builders Victoria says the two-week shutdown of Melbourne's construction industry will cost the Victorian economy more than $450 million in revenue every day. 

The state government closed all construction sites in Melbourne and the locked-down regions of Ballarat, Geelong, Surf Coast and the Mitchell Shire, after anti-vaccination protests erupted at the CFMEU headquarters yesterday.

All workers now need to have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine before they can return to site in two weeks time, on the 5th of October. 

Master Builders Victoria chief Rebecca Casson says the construction industry is the largest full-time employer in Victoria. 

"Our industry accounts for over 46 per cent of our state tax revenue. So for every single day that our industry is locked down, that projected figure suggests that that's $455 million every single day in lost revenue, and that's $63 million in lost wages as well."
