How your postcode is faring as NSW hits 50% double-dose vaccination rates - Sydney Morning Herald

NSW has passed the 50 per cent double dose vaccination target for its population aged 16 and over, with 50.58 per cent now fully vaccinated.

A total of 81.22 per cent of those aged 16 and over in NSW have had their first COVID-19 vaccine doses. This does not include 56,381 12- to 15-year-olds in the state who have received their initial jabs, according to federal government figures released on Friday afternoon.

Postcode-level breakdowns of vaccination rates across Sydney and NSW suburbs highlight the areas pushing past the state averages and those trailing behind.

NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said on Friday the state was “inching closer and closer” to the 70 per cent fully vaccinated rate, expected about mid-October.

“Getting to that milestone of 50 [per cent] gives us heart that, in some weeks, we’ll get to that 70 per cent double dose and enjoy many more things than what we can today and start to feel more normal about life at that stage,” she said.

Stay-at-home orders for adults who have received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine will be lifted from the Monday after the 70 per cent target is reached, when the reopening road map will kick in.

“It’s always difficult when you can see the light at the end of the tunnel to stay the course, but we’re really urging everybody to stick to the rules,” Ms Berejiklian said. “There are opportunities for us to consider easing restrictions moving forward.”

In Sydney, Schofields and Edmondson Park have first- and second-dose rates above 90 per cent, while Berkshire Park’s first-dose rate is more than 90 per cent and second-dose rate between 80 and 89 per cent.

Beecroft, Turramurra and Macquarie Park, on the city’s affluent north shore and upper north shore, all have a first-dose rate above 90 per cent and a second-dose rate of between 70 and 79 per cent.

On the lower end, suburbs with double-dose vaccination rates between 30 and 39 per cent include Fairfield, Orchard Hills, Cecil Park, Guildford, Merrylands and Auburn in Sydney’s west and south-west. However, these areas have all recorded first-dose vaccination rates of 70 per cent or above.

In the inner city and east, Kingsford, Waterloo and Ultimo have double-dose vaccination rates of between 30 and 39 per cent, while in nearby Chippendale between 20 and 29 per cent of people are fully vaccinated. The first-dose rate in Ultimo is low at 50 to 59 per cent.
