The face of Victoria's public health response to COVID-19 says he plans to answer questions submitted by the public at future press conferences.
In a social media post on Saturday, Professor Brett Sutton called for the public to tweet him their burning COVID-19 questions, and he would "do my best to respond to them in future pressers".
It comes after public criticism of the media for repeated questions around the hotel quarantine saga, and a number of marathon press conferences in recent weeks by Professor Sutton, Premier Daniel Andrews and Health Minister Jenny Mikakos.
Hundreds of questions had already flooded in on Twitter by late Saturday evening. Many wanted to know if there could be postcode data of COVID-19 cases realised more than once a week, instead of the broader local government area data currently being released each day.
Others asked why Victoria was not pursuing an elimination strategy, and wondered what was being done to protect healthcare workers after cases in that cohort increased by 140 on Saturday.
"This is why I like the Victorian CHO," said one person on Twitter. "It's clear he also cares deeply about our community, and still has his head in the game after so may intense months of this."
Another person said that reading through all the submitted questions was like seeing "all of the anxieties laid bare".
"Seems a lot of us grown ups need to hear a grown up say it's going to be ok."
The Department of Health and Human Services has not yet outlined how public questions will be encorporated into future Victorian COVID-19 press conferences.
There were 466 new cases of COVID-19 in Victoria announced on Saturday, marking the third day in a row of cases in the 400s.
Professor Sutton said during Saturday's press conference while the state is "clearly" seeing some stabilisation in case numbers, he is still not happy with the current trends.
"We are 400 to 500 cases each day, more or less the average over the last week," he said.
"That is not good enough but it's a positive that we have averted an exponential increase through the last couple of weeks."
