A man has been shot by police in Geelong overnight after allegedly charging at officers armed with a tool.
It’s the second police shooting in Victoria this week after a former cop, who allegedly came at officers are with a knife after a standoff in Werribee on Monday, was shot twice in the stomach.
The latest shooting happened in the Geelong suburb of Waurn Ponds when police were called to a house on Willesden Dr following a noise complaint.
When officers arrived just before midnight on Wednesday they were confronted by a man allegedly armed with a tool.
A police spokeswoman said the man charged at police and an officer opened fire, hitting the man in the lower body.
The 46-year-old was taken to hospital in a stable condition.
Police said Armed Crime Squad detectives would investigate the shooting with oversight from the Professional Standards Command, which is standard protocol when a police firearm is discharged.
