Thirteen new cases of coronavirus reported in NSW overnight - NEWS.com.au

Another 13 new cases of coronavirus have been recorded in NSW overnight, Premier Gladys Berejiklian confirmed on Friday.

Six are linked to the Sydney CBD cluster, one is a returned traveller in hotel quarantine and two are linked to known clusters and four remain under investigation.

Two schools were forced to close their doors today after a staff member and student tested positive. Both are included in today’s cases.

Ryde Secondary College will be closed on Friday after a staff member tested positive for COVID-19, while a student at St Gertrude’s Catholic Primary School also has the virus.

Chief health officer Dr Kerry Chant said Wyndham College Quakers Hill, Schofields Public School and Riverstone High School have been cleaned and are re-opening today.

Close contacts are in self-isolation.

One of today’s cases attended Anytime Fitness gym in Marrickville on August 24 between 7pm and 8pm.

“Anyone at the gym at this time is considered a close contact and is required to immediately,” Dr Chant said.

Further investigations into the City Tattersall’s Club cluster determined anyone who was at the club on August 24 between 8am and 2pm is now considered a close contact.

People who have attended the following venues are considered casual contacts and should monitor their symptoms:

  • The Matterhorn, Turramurra - August 22 between 6pm and 8pm
  • Parish of Holy Name, Wahroonga - August 23 between 9.30am and 10.15am
  • Liquorland, Marrickville - August 23 between 5.15pm and 5.30pm
  • Eat Fuh, Marrickville - August 23 between 5.20pm and 5.40pm

Dr Chant said a Victorian resident also tested positive after spending some time in a NSW-Victorian border communities.

Two NSW residents, who are deemed close contacts, are in isolation as a result.

Ms Berejikian also urged residents to be mindful of gathering outdoors in groups as we near the end of winter and the weather improves.

The Premier also said NSW authorities are working through “issues” on the Victorian border and are seeking health advice with the prospect of easing restrictions “toward the end of the week.”

“That is ongoing work but I do want to thank people. I know a lot of rural and regional communities tune in every day and I want to thank them for their patience,” she said.

She said she will have more clarity and a further update on the border closure next week.
