Victoria recorded 279 new coronavirus cases and 16 deaths yesterday.
While case numbers have dropped across Victoria, the government decided to extend its state of emergency for another four weeks.
NSW had a better day with five new cases while South Australia confirmed one new case, a man in his 30s who had been repatriated from India.

Security guards believed to be at the centre of a Victorian coronavirus outbreak will appear at an inquiry into the hotel quarantine program.
The Herald Sun reported the inquiry has scheduled extra days to hear from witnesses who worked in the hotels during the failed quarantine program.
Travellers staying in the hotels under mandatory 14 day periods are also being called to the inquiry.
The list of witnesses has not been publicly released, according to the report, but Thursday and Friday has been allocated to hearing from staff and returning travellers inside the quarantine program.
Earlier this week, emails emerged showing a security guard hadn’t been responsible for the second wave of COVID-19 infections in Victoria. The outbreak was instead linked to a night duty manager at the Rydges Hotel on Swanston St.
According to reports, the night duty manager became “patient zero” after coming down with a fever on May 25 and testing positive the next day.
Hotel staff and security guards were instructed to self-isolate but virus had already spread.
Five guards tested positive, and went on to spread the virus to their families.
Victoria's chief health officer Brett Sutton admitted the state could be waiting up to 18 months for a vaccine, warning the virus-weary state "we have to prepare ourselves for the long haul".
Prof Sutton told reporters yesterday he hoped a vaccine would be avaiable by early 2021.
“I hope that it‘s not 12 to 18 months, but we have to prepare ourselves for the long haul,” he said.
Despite Victorians potentially waiting more than a year for the vaccine, Prof Sutton said thankfully most coronavirus measures – including social distancing, hand hygiene and mask wearing – were simply part of people's behaviour now.
“I think there are some things that are now clearly embedded in our psyche … these are the things that are going to start to embed behaviourally in our lives," he said.
Victoria has extended its state of emergency for another four weeks.
While the state has seen a dramatic drop in coronavirus cases, yesterday recording 279 new tests in a day, Victoria's second wave is far from under control.
Announcing the extension yesterday, Premier Dan Andrews said it was unlikely Victoria would be virus-free for a long time.
“Even when this second wave is over, we will see cases, we will see outbreaks, that’s just a function of this thing,” Mr Andrews told reporters.
“The notion of completely extinguishing it and never seeing it again, I think that would be an unlikely outcome.”
Victoria's state of emergency, which was first declared in March, has been extended for another four weeks until 11.59pm on September 13.
In addition to the state of emergency, a separate state of disaster was declared earlier this month in response to the deadly second wave of coronavirus.
