A man has been arrested after another man was shot dead in Geelong overnight.
Police arrested the 39-year-old man just before 6am on Tuesday morning in Leopold, about 8km from where the shooting unfolded at a property in Whittington on Monday night.
The Whittington man has been taken into custody and is being interviewed by Homicide Squad detectives.
Homicide Squad detectives were still at the scene in Boundary Rd, Whittington on Tuesday morning where forensics had been seen going in and out of a property throughout the night.
Police will allege the shooting was not a random attack and the parties were known to one another.
Police were called to the house in Boundary Rd when paramedics responded to reports a man had been shot about 7.20pm on Monday.
A Whittington man, 31, was unable to be revived and died at the property.
Sergeant Julie-Anne Newman said the exact circumstances surrounding the incident were still being established and crime scene had been set up at the property.
“Detectives have a number of follow up enquiries to make in relation to those involved and at this early stage it’s believed the parties are known to one another,” she said.
Local police, detectives and specialist police, including the Dog Squad, were seen canvassing the area overnight.
No charges have been laid at this stage.
