Woman charged with kicking a police horse at Friday's 'freedom day' protests - The Age

Police have charged a woman with animal cruelty after she allegedly kicked a police horse at Friday's anti-lockdown demonstrations.

Detectives have also charged a 24-year-old man for allegedly smashing a side mirror on a police car, bringing the total number of arrests from the so-called "freedom day" protests to 18.

Police are still investigating other incidents, including damage to a police car and the theft of an officer's hat.

They would also like to speak to a man about an incident in which police horses were hit in the face with a flag pole.

The 29-year-old Werribee woman charged with animal cruelty was bailed to appear at Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on March 23.

The Bentleigh man charged with criminal damage, hindering police, intimidating a police officer, and possessing cannabis was bailed to appear in Melbourne Magistrates’ Court on the same day.

Friday's protests attracted hundreds of people to Melbourne's CBD and turned violent when it was met with a large police presence.

"Victoria Police will continue to conduct proactive patrols and anyone who deliberately and blatantly breaches the Chief Health Officer’s (CHO) directions can expect a swift and strong police response," police said in a statement early Tuesday morning.
