Since the advent of the pandemic, a lot more people have been working from home, and met some unique challenges as a result. So spare a thought for these folks down in South Australia.

Adelaide's training airport has become Australia's busiest because of a fall in the number of flights at the nation's biggest hubs amid the coronavirus pandemic — and local residents say the noise has become "relentless".

Parafield Airport, in Adelaide's northern suburbs, was Australia's busiest airport in the year to June 2020, according to statistics published by Airservices Australia, with 5,000 more flights in and out than Sydney Airport.

Parafield is home to several pilot training schools and also acts as a base for Adelaide's non-commercial flights.

Flights were up from about 250,000 in 2018–2019 to 273,000 in 2019–2020.

In the same 12-month period, flights at Sydney Airport were down by 81,000, to 268,000.

Nearby residents this morning told ABC Radio Adelaide they had noticed the noise more acutely in recent months.

A Pooraka man, who did not want to be identified, said flights ran from 7:00am–11:00pm on weekdays and all day on weekends.

"It's just relentless — it does not let up," he told ABC Radio Adelaide.
