Victoria has recorded 15 new coronavirus cases with the all-important 14-day metro average now falling below 11.
The state also recorded one new virus deaths, taking the total number of deaths since the start of the pandemic to 807.
The 15 new infections in the past 24 hours have dropped Melbourne’s metropolitan 14-day average to 10.6. On Monday it was 11.6
That figure must be around five for the State Government to consider reopening the city.
Regional Victoria’s 14-day average has remained at 0.3 after it was revealed the case reported in Greater Shepparton on Monday was a false positive and removed from the data.
But another new regional case has been reported Kilmore after a cafe staff member tested positive after coming into contact with the infected diner.
The number of cases from an unknown source in the last 14 days is 13 for Melbourne and zero for regional Victoria.
The total number of coronavirus cases recorded in Victoria since the start of the pandemic is about 20,230, with the number of active cases continuing to fall to about 200.
On Tuesday, Premier Daniel Andrews said he could not be certain what restrictions would be eased under Victoria’s next step to reopening.
“We can’t rule out anything at the moment. I cannot with any sense of accuracy tell the Victorian community the exact settings that will be in place once we take the next step,” he said.
“It will all be based on the doctor’s advice, the data and the science of this. These next steps need to be safe and steady. Otherwise, we run the very real risk of frittering away everything that Victorians through their sacrifice have built.”
The Premier will give more detail on Tuesday’s new cases at the daily media conference later in the day.
