A Parramatta man has been refused bail following an allegedly vicious attack on his 60-year-old mother at her western Sydney workplace, leaving her fighting for life.
Luke Henry, 26, faced Mount Druitt Local Court on Thursday on domestic violence-related charges over allegations he punched and kicked Adelle Henry to the head multiple times and threw her to the ground, causing her to hit her head on the concrete at the premises of a disability workshop in Mount Druitt at 2pm Wednesday.
NSW Police Detective Chief Inspector Paul Tickner told media Ms Henry's colleagues armed themselves with mops and a squeegee in an effort to stop the alleged attack.
"The male unfortunately armed himself with a fire extinguisher and they retreated back into the premises," he said.
"This is a colleague who's worked with them for a number of years, it's a violent attack on a frail, 60-year-old lady, so obviously they're fairly traumatised by it."
Chief Inspector Tickner said Ms Henry was in a critical condition in Westmead Hospital, suffering severe facial injuries and internal bleeding.
Mr Henry was arrested without incident after leaving the Kurrajong Avenue workplace and was taken back to Mount Druitt police station, where he declined to be interviewed.
Asked what prompted the attack, the Chief Inspector said, "the offender is blaming the female in regards to some issues he has in life."
Mr Henry is charged with cause grievous bodily harm to person with intent (domestic violence) and destroy or damage property (domestic violence).
He is due to reappear before the court in March.
