Sydney news: First COVID-19 vaccination sites revealed by NSW Health - ABC News

Here's what you need to know this morning.

First vaccine hubs revealed

Some of the largest hospitals in NSW will be used for the state's first 11 COVID-19 vaccination sites, which will administer Phase 1a of the Pfizer vaccine.

NSW Health says priority will be given to frontline staff in the Federal Government's rollout of the program from late next month.

Vaccination hubs are set to be located at Royal Prince Alfred, Westmead and Liverpool hospitals, followed by Hornsby, St George, Nepean, Newcastle, Wollongong, Coffs Harbour, Dubbo and Wagga Wagga hospitals.

Among the groups first in line for the jab will be ambulance and patient transport staff, emergency department workers and those in critical care wards.

NSW Health said there would be limited doses available in Australia in the first few months, but the vaccination is expected to be more generally available from mid-year.

Back-to-school concerns

A child psychology expert says some students may find returning to school difficult after a disruptive 2020.

Students are returning to the classroom with term one kicking off in NSW today.

Developmental psychology expert Caroline Moul said home-schooling may be something some children want to continue after it was done during the height of the pandemic.

"So for some kids they might actually be quite anxious about going back into a routine because they have seen the option, they have seen that there is a possibility not to be at school, that you can learn from home and I think some kids might find that hard," she said.

However, wind warnings are also in place on the Hunter coast, Eden coast and continuing on the Sydney coast and Illawarra coast into Friday.

Restrictions have eased in NSW from today and while it is welcome news for many, Sydneysiders should not pack away their masks just yet.

Face coverings are still mandatory on public transport, in places of worship, gaming rooms, hairdressing and beauty salons in Greater Sydney (which includes Wollongong, the Central Coast and Blue Mountains).

Several other restrictions have been eased from today in Greater Sydney including the maximum amount of people allowed to gather in a home.

Bushfire grants alleged fraud

A Central Coast man has been charged over alleged fraud relating to six bushfire recovery grants totalling $60,000.

An investigation began after police became aware of fraudulent claims for bushfire disaster relief and small business grants through government agencies.

Police will allege the man also attempted to obtain a further two NSW Government grants totalling $20,000.

He was charged with six counts of dishonestly obtaining financial benefit by deception and two counts of attempting to dishonestly obtain financial advantage by deception.
