A volunteer firefighter has been charged after allegedly deliberately lighting more than 30 grass fires in southwest NSW.
Police established Strike Force Rummery earlier this month to investigate more than 30 separate suspicious fires in Whitton, about 40km south of Griffith, between November and January.
After an extensive investigation, detectives swooped on the 30-year-old volunteer Rural Fire Service member just after 11am on Friday.
Detectives also searched the man’s home in Whitton, with several items of interest seized for forensic examination.
The man was taken to Griffith police station and charged with five counts of intentionally causing fire and being reckless as to its spread.
He faced Wagga Wagga Bail Court on Saturday where he was refused bail and remanded to appear at Wagga Wagga Local Court on Wednesday.
