Dr Norman Swan says third wave could cause vaccine dose issues
After Trade Minister Dan Tehan flagged Italy blocking the export of AstraZeneca vaccines to Australia, Dr Norman Swan says a third wave of COVID-19 could lead to European nations becoming protective doses.
250,000 doses of the vaccine were stopped in Italy, headed for Australia.
Dr Swan says this could become a greater problem.
"Italy is seeing a surge. Germany is seeing a surge. America is still at 60,000 cases a day," he told News Breakfast.
"The vaccination is yet to kick in and we've got the new variants coming in as well so they've got to hurry along, and you can understand why Europe wants to keep doses for itself.
"They really need them, but we need them, too, to protect our borders."
