No new cases for Victoria, but Brisbane visitors must isolate - The Age

Victoria has recorded no new cases for the 29th day in a row on Saturday, as contact tracers race to find travellers who have entered the state from the Brisbane region during the last two weeks.

A Health Department edict to people from Brisbane to isolate and get tested prompted confusion at the football on Friday night, with an announcement asking supporters who had travelled down to support the Lions against Geelong to leave the stadium.

Brisbane Lions players and officials were granted an exemption as they had been abiding by approved AFL protocols.

AFL commentators Luke Hodge and Wayne Carey were among those forced to leave the stadium in Geelong.

There were 10,286 test results received in Victoria on Friday. No active cases remain in the state.

The day’s case numbers come after the Victorian health department warned on Friday night that any person who has been in the City of Brisbane and Moreton Bay region since 12 March must immediately self-isolate following a new Queensland COVID-19.

A 26-year-old man from Brisbane’s northern suburbs tested positive on Thursday, with authorities concerned he had been infectious in the community since March 19.

The man’s infection of the UK strain has been linked to a doctor who treated COVID-19 patients at Princess Alexandra Hospital.

Travellers from Brisbane and Moreton Bay, north of the Queensland capital, will also need to get a coronavirus test within 72 hours and stay isolated until they receive a negative result.

Anyone who has been to one of the public exposure sites in Queensland will need to contact Victoria’s Department of Health.

Anyone wishing to travel from Brisbane and Moreton Bay now requires an “orange zone” Victorians travel permit, cannot enter if they have any COVID-19 symptoms and will need to isolate and get tested within 72 hours of entering Victoria.

The Department of Health is now scrambling to contact all those who recently entered Victoria from the Brisbane area.

“Using data from travel permits, the Victorian Department of Health will be contacting anyone who has entered Victoria from the City of Brisbane and Moreton Bay Region since 12 March to advise them of their obligations,” the health department said on Twitter late on Friday.
