The body of a man who went missing on Saturday, sparking an extensive air and ground search, has been found in South Australia's outback.
Key points:
- The body of the 29-year-old from Roxby Downs was found at 2pm on Tuesday
- His 24-year-old partner was spotted yesterday and treated in hospital for dehydration
- A motorcycle and a hat believed to belong to the man were located earlier
The 29-year-old's body was found about 2pm near Gregory Creek, about 100 kilometres from Roxby Downs.
The man, from Roxby Downs, had been travelling with his partner, a 24-year-old woman, when he went missing near Finniss Springs south of Callanna.
The pair's four-wheel drive became bogged on Saturday, and the man was last seen when he rode off on a motorbike to seek assistance.
Police were first alerted to the pair's disappearance near Finniss Springs about 2:30pm on Sunday after family were unable to contact them.
The woman was found alive about 1:15pm on Monday, about 10 kilometres from the bogged vehicle, at Stuart Creek Station.
She was taken to Roxby Downs Hospital where she was treated for dehydration.
Police earlier found footprints, a motorcycle and a hat they believe belonged to the missing man.
Inside-out shirt led to woman's rescue
Family members had travelled to the area to join the search, which also involved local station owners, police said.
Pilot and Marree publican Phil Van Wegen was flying over dense bushland along a creek when the woman was spotted.
He praised her decision to turn her shirt inside out, saying that it helped lead to her rescue.
"We had a family member in the plane with us doing some of the spotting with us, and they spotted her under a tree," he told ABC Radio.
"That was a pretty good moment.
Mr Van Wegen said he communicated with ground crews until they arrived on scene.
"We circled back around and stayed there until we could get ground people over to her," he said.
"We had bikes and vehicles all along the creek, it was a reasonable crew of people out helping with the search."
A PolAir police helicopter continued to look for the man until 10:15pm last night, and the search resumed at first light.
"Sadly, the body of the 29-year-old Roxby Downs man was located near Gregory Creek," police said in a statement late today.
A report will now be prepared for the coroner.
