Constable Aaron Vidal killed in motorcycle crash was expecting baby - NEWS.com.au

A young police officer killed in a motorcycle accident was expecting his first child with his fiancee.

Constable Aaron Vidal was on his way home from work on Thursday night when he crashed with a ute at about 5.45pm in Sydney’s Rouse Hill.

The 28-year-old died at the scene, at the intersection of Windsor and Schofields Roads.

Constable Vidal, who was based at Sydney City Command, has been described as an outstanding man who was in the prime of his life.

“My thoughts are with Aaron’s family and fiancee, as well as his current and former colleagues at this difficult time,” NSW Police Commissioner Mick Fuller said.

“Aaron was one of six siblings and worked alongside his father, Chief Inspector David Vidal, at Sydney City.

“Dave has always been incredibly proud of his son following in his footsteps and walking the beat side-by-side with him.”

Mr Fuller said Constable Vidal had spent his entire policing career at Sydney City, where he had been part of the Proactive Crime Team since late last year, targeting crimes that directly impacted the community.

“On two occasions he had been formally recognised for good police work by members of the community, which shows that he was held in high regard by not only his peers, but the community he served,” he said.

“Prior to joining the police force, Aaron served in the Australian Army, which further demonstrates his commitment to serving and protecting the community.”

Constable Vidal was only three years into the job.

Deputy Commissioner Jeff Loy said the officer was still planning his life.

“He was engaged to be married and planning a family so for him to be cut short is really a tragedy,” he said.

Superintendent Gavin Wood described him as an “outstanding” man.

“The police family here, we’re hurting everywhere, but we’re very appreciative of the support we’ve received from the community,” he said.

Mr Loy said Constable Vidal was travelling north on Windsor Rd when he came up to the cross section of Schofields Rd road and a ute turned into his path.

Police will allege in court the driver failed to stop for a red light.

The 37-year-old man from The Ponds was due to appear in Blacktown Local Court today charged with dangerous driving occasioning death, and negligent driving occasioning death.
