Merinda Park Cricket Club, which is close to the scene, held its annual general meeting last night and coach Dustin Peebles said he was shocked to hear of the grim discovery.
"It's hard to believe that that thing can happen in between last night and this morning," he said.
Mr Peebles left the clubhouse about 9pm last night, other members left about 11.30pm and one mentioned seeing a car pull in about that time.
He said they had only noticed petty vandalism but nothing serious.
"I couldn’t imagine the kids and parents coming into school and finding that. It’s pretty shocking and I hope the family is all right. It took me aback. I’m sure the other guys, the president and the committee members, are pretty shocked as well," he said.
