Coronavirus Australia live news: NSW and Queensland at odds after Annastacia Palaszczuk says hospitals are for 'our people' - ABC News

Travellers barred from entering Queensland

Nearly 200 people have been barred for entering Queensland by road in the past day.

Police say 181 people were refused entry after trying to cross the state's border and 110 placed into quarantine.

A total of 3,939 vehicles were intercepted in the past 24 hours.

Since yesterday, Queensland police have processed 1,945 passengers on 28 flights arriving into the state.

No-one was refused entry, but 88 people were placed into quarantine.

Queensland's Deputy Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski said breaches wouldn't go unpunished.

"We had a person last week that attempted to enter the state through the Tugun pass, was refused entry then entered on the wrong side of the road," he said.

"Now police have tracked that person down and they have been issued with a $4,000 fine."

This comes as the "border bubble" between NSW and Queensland is being expanded to take in more postcodes around the Goondiwindi region.

Queensland Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said the Government would look to streamline the exemption process for border-region residents.

"These are very small numbers of people and of course it's just to make that movement between those border communities a little bit easier," she said.

"We are continuing to work with people when it comes to their health concerns but also too when it comes to the movement of agriculture."
