The parents reportedly waited several hours before alerting authorities.
Several police cars remain at the scene and the parents of the baby are believed to have been assisting police.
A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said the baby's mother is aged in her mid-20s.
She was taken to Fiona Stanley Hospital in the back of an ambulance.
It is currently unclear whether the death is suspicious but officers from the coronial unit and local detectives are investigating.
